Extensions of Cantor Minimal Systems and Dimension Groups

چکیده

Given a factor map p : (X, T )→ (Y, S) of Cantor minimal systems, we study the relations between the dimension groups of the two systems. First, we interpret the torsion subgroup of the quotient of the dimension groups K0(X)/K0(Y ) in terms of intermediate extensions which are extensions of (Y, S) by a compact abelian group. Then we show that, by contrast, the existence of an intermediate non-abelian finite group extension can produce a situation where the dimension group of (Y, S) embeds into a proper subgroup of the dimension group of (X, T ), yet the quotient of the dimension groups is nonetheless torsion free. Next we define higher order cohomology groups H(X | Y ) associated to an extension, and study them in various cases (proximal extensions, extensions by, not necessarily abelian, finite groups, etc.). Our main result here is that all the cohomology groups H(X | Y ) are torsion groups. As a consequence we can now identify H(X | Y ) as the torsion group of K0(X)/K0(Y ).

Dimension Groups of Topological Joinings and Non-coalescence of Cantor Minimal Systems

By a topological dynamical system (Y, ψ), we mean a compact Hausdorff space Y endowed with a homeomorphism ψ. When (Yi, ψi), i = 0, 1 are two topological dynamical systems, ψ0 × ψ1-invariant closed subsets of Y0 × Y1 are called (topological) joinings, and when (Y0, ψ0) equals (Y1, ψ1), they are called self-joinings. In the measure-theoretical setting, the notion of selfjoinings was introduced b...

Dimension Groups and Invariant Measures for Polynomial Odometers

Adic maps on simple ordered Bratteli diagrams, called Bratteli-Vershik systems, have been proven to be extremely useful as models for minimal Cantor systems. In particular, the dimension group given by the diagram is order isomorphic to the ordered cohomology group for the system, and this along with a distinguished order unit is shown to be the complete invariant for strong orbit equivalence i...

Extensions of amenable groups by recurrent groupoids

We show that amenability of a group acting by homeomorphisms can be deduced from a certain local property of the action and recurrency of the orbital Schreier graphs. This applies to a wide class of groups, amenability of which was an open problem, as well as unifies many known examples to one general proof. In particular, this includes Grigorchuk’s group, Basilica group, groups associated with...

Minimal Hyperspace Actions of Homeomorphism Groups of H-homogeneous Spaces

Let X be a h-homogeneous zero-dimensional compact Hausdorff space, i.e. X is a Stone dual of a homogeneous Boolean algebra. Using the dual Ramsey theorem and a detailed combinatorial analysis of what we call stable collections of subsets of a finite set, we obtain a complete list of the minimal sub-systems of the compact dynamical system (Exp(Exp(X)), Homeo(X)), where Exp(X) stands for the hype...

The Universal Minimal Space for Groups of Homeomorphisms of H-homogeneous Spaces

Let X be a h-homogeneous zero-dimensional compact Hausdorff space, i.e. X is a Stone dual of a homogeneous Boolean algebra. It is shown that the universal minimal space M(G) of the topological group G = Homeo(X), is the space of maximal chains on X introduced in [Usp00]. If X is metrizable then clearly X is homeomorphic to the Cantor set and the result was already known (see [GW03]). However ma...
